Shrimp w/ Broccoli & White Rice topped with Brown Sugar glaze

Here's Thursday's Treat!! xoxo

When I want a twist on the staple sauces or glazes I go into my kitchen and throw something together.

Last night I wanted to make Shrimps with Broccoli but I didn't want regular soy sauce or marinade.

So I did this instead, I combined Soy Sauce and Brown Sugar to make a glaze.

Ingredients: (2 people)
-2 cups white rice uncooked
-2 1/2 cups water
-16pcs of shrimp deveined
-handful of broccoli
-salt
-soy sauce
-brown sugar
-cooking oil (whichever you like)

So in a bowl I pour out my rice, check for any partials that are not rice, run under water till water is not so cloudy.
I set it aside, I get my rice pot ready by pouring water, pinch of salt to taste, 1 large spoonful of oil mix together bring water to a boil. Flame should be medium. For every cup of rice you add half of water so 2 cups rice 2 1/2 water if you go past that rule your rice will be almost soupy.
When water is boiling add the rice, when water is almost drying, cover the rice.
In my home I was taught to use aluminum foil to cover pot lid so holds steam in better. I've been doing it since I was 18 years old, I don't mess with perfection.
When you cover the rice, lower the flame to almost nothing cook for 20 minutes, take lid off turn rice bottom to top, cover for 10 more minutes then done. Turn off the flame.

In the last 10 minutes of the rice you grab another pot add water, pinch salt, add the broccoli and the shrimps cook for 7 to 10 minutes depending on your preference of broccoli tenderness. Drain and set aside.

While that is cooking get started on the glaze.
Get a small dish add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 1/2 of brown sugar and mix.
If consistency is not to your liking add a little more of the sugar. The idea is to have a balance of sweet, a little kick and not watery. So when you find that your set.

Serve your rice, then broccoli and shrimps, pour your glaze to your preference and enjoy!

You will love the pleasant surprise of flavor it also gives to the rice when the two meet.

This takes less than hour to prep, cook, serve.

What other combination would you use to add a twist to this dish?

Always stress free, xo

  1. This sounds yummy and tastier than soy sauce which has too much sodium anyway.
