Change Direction

I care too much to stay the same.
You care too little you just want to place blame.
Going around in circles repeating the same things.
Nothing ever changes, do you think talking makes things happen faster?
Do you feel the need to say things to keep our hopes up?

Tick Tock Tick Tock the clock keeps ticking.
Reminding me of what is passing me by, reminding me not to let my dreams die.
Tick Tock Tick Tock the clock keeps ticking.
Hey! are you done waiting yet? What are you even waiting for?

Do you think your special? Do you think words just make things happen?
Don't you ever feel the need to scream
I WANT TO BE FREE!

I care too much to stay the same.
Live life till you Die

Learning to Accept everyones Reality

Where ever you are planted...Bloom

Happy Sunday hope that our transition back to school and cooler weather hasn't been and won't be too difficult. Today I wanted to share with you a few walk away thoughts I've had on recent events on the news. I wanted to share my perspective and hopefully hear what you guys had to say as well. I was talking to my bestie last week over FaceTime and it was great to see his beautiful smile shining back at me after several months of missed calls and busy schedules. We were catching up on life's events and one of the things we touched on was Friendships. He commented that what he notices from me and I am not quoting just summarizing is that basically I am just to rigid in my expectations of people and more so my friends. That basically everyone has stuff going on and that I should try to have empathy, more understanding and more or less meet them where they are at. And for the most part I really get where he was coming from But at the same time my perspective from my life's experience goes back to value. I don't have a problem meeting you where you are, I don't have a problem having empathy but I do have a problem with you not showing me the same value as I show you. I have a huge problem with people who behave as if their life activities are more important than yours. This is why I have adopted the mindset of loving you from a distance. I am learning to Accept every ones Reality.

Then I run into the Colin Kaepernick controversy and this is my take away thought...I am proud to have been born in the United States because this is all I ever have known. I am grateful my family came to this country and sacrificed so much so we can have a better life and I am grateful that I have so many freedoms that some may not be afforded But how then can you give me a Freedom and want to tell me how to use it? How can some in society be upset with this man when you told him you have freedom of speech? Many Americans want to lump all things together. Many Americans want all Americans to have the same views But if one persons reality is not the same as another how can they all have the same views? If I come from a reality of oppression, de-valued and dehumanized over years and years and still today see the same injustices why would I stand for your reality and deny mine? Freedom is a beautiful thing and all human beings should have it. If we live in such greatness as the United States then let me use it as it was given. Learning to Accept every ones Reality.

This next one was shocking but not really because I always say unfortunately women are very catty and can be brutal critics of their own gender instead of lifting one another up. Blue Ivy / huffingtonpost article I came across which talks about the harsh comments posted about this four year old little girl four!
Grown women calling her ugly, what on earth? She is a child, what are you thinking when you are sitting at home or walking around just typing any crap that comes to mind then pressing send? Are you even really thinking? Are you even mindful of something called feelings? Do you ever remove yourself from your bubble and think about how you would feel hearing or reading these types of comments about your mother, sister or even child? Your reality may not be being thrusted into the spotlight she did not ask for cameras to follow her every move but you did choose to see her and comment. You made a choice and that choice from my perspective is unkind and lacks humanity. Societies emphasis on looks as a whole is F***ed up but when your own gender jumps on the band wagon...where do you go from there? My perspective is these comments come from a place of envy. What she was born into can afford her things some of us may never experience but if we were more mindful of gratitude of the things in our own lives we would not devalue hers. Learning to Accept every ones Reality.

This last thought ties into my Blue Ivy share because it relates again to...women and the harsh judgment nature. Why all the fuse about who is not wearing makeup? What is the big deal about going outside makeup free? And why does it bother you if I am making that choice for myself and you wouldn't for you?
Two articles caught my eye allure.com  which shares a story about my daughter's favorite artist Alicia Keys and her choice to go makeup free. She is a beautiful woman inside and out. She uses her platform to uplift everyone never a harsh word used to exploit any opportunity so why are so many people more so women upset about her choice? Were we born with makeup on? No. It was a product made to enhance what was/is already beautiful or to add a little something to help with an issue we may feel can use a little work. It is society that has pushed this idea that women are not whole unless we put our face on. What! My natural face isn't good enough? Get the F out of here with that noise. Choices...again Freedom to use or not use makeup yet you want to tell me what to do and you want me to feel bad for choosing another road. I am choosing for me yet you want to lump my choice into your life.

I will turn forty- five in a few weeks and its just in the last two years that I have embraced lipstick yes lipstick! I finally have the interest in applying it to my lips because of all the great colors and textures I can choose. I started to wear eyeliner in my teens and mascara in my late twenties but that is it. I hate yes I said it I hate anything else on my face. Foundation, concealers, blush whatever I don't want any part of it BUT if one day I wake up and have a dang pimple I want to cover up I can choose to do so however I wish! Forty something years of practically no makeup for me has afforded extra sleep time, no dirty collars, no midday apply, no restrictions on kissing or "playtime" on a whim and plenty of extra cash for things I really love like sweets! This other article about barely no makeup makeup is ridiculous to me but again its a choice gma.yahoo.com do what you wish with your dang own face. Learning to Accept every ones Reality. Do and be what works best for you. Live your life by your definition. Encourage individuality in your loved ones, especially your children. Allow them the choice to define themselves by their own standards. What makes them proud of themselves whether in front of a mirror or outside in the world.

Pettiness serves no purpose

Hey Dolls, when someone does something to you whether in person or online or in passing or through gossip I know it can be extremely difficult not to react but try it... Don't react.

We can not right another person's wrong. We can speculate as to why they behave as they do but what would be the point? It would be like a hamster going around his wheel.

I use to tell my daughter all the time to just try to understand that not everyone was going to be happy with her accomplishments in Martial Arts. Plenty of those dads were gonna be bitter that she beat their sons. That they would perhaps even go as far as to say the calls were unfair or that she "just got lucky". The truth is people who are down on themselves find it easier to attack others. I still tell her today, don't diminish your light because someone else wants to remain in the dark.

Don't fall into their negative trap breathe, focus and keep pressing on. We must all find our own purpose.

What You think of me doesn't Cloud what I think of me

She's fat, she's too skinny, she's lazy, she's disorganized, she's a whore, she's a prude, she's a gold digger, she's boring, she's a bitch, she's a pushover, she's a control freak, she lets people walk all over her. You got a small glimpse of me and now you think you know me.

The same list of assumptions could be tweaked and directed at a man in the end daily there are people walking around looking at us and making up their own stories about who we are. Are you going to allow their version of your story to be your truth? Are you going to cower down or stand tall and keep doing you?

Investing time and energy into trying to correct someone's thoughts of who we are only starts to slow us down and becomes a burden of unnecessary weight to carry. On most days its just a deflection on the part of those people and what they have going on in their own lives.

When I began to Meditate and began to hold myself accountable for how I was communicating with others the words I heard most often were "think you better than". I would have to stop myself and ask where that was coming from I was simply changing some of my old behaviors and making better choices for me. I had to in time accept that not everyone wants you to succeed and if they are down they want you down right next to them. I had to begin to cut those ties that were clipping my wings.

How can we walk proud in who we are when others say or think something different?

Well first we must begin by looking in the mirror. Is that person staring back at you ashamed of their actions, of who they currently are? If you live long enough, and our elders do tell us, that you will have made some mistakes but those mistakes don't have to make you. On any given day we can start again, do something different to get on the right track.
Once we do that our next thought should be about perception. We all see things differently, experience things in a variety of ways. Go to a movie with a few friends and you will see exactly that come into play.

What you think of me doesn't cloud what I think of me. Be comfortable in your own skin, look within and present your best self.

Perception is individual and derives from our current emotions. Feeling positive than your eyes see only beauty, feeling like crap then your eyes only see gloom.

What you think of me doesn't cloud what I think of me. Focus on constant evolution and block out the unnecessary noise.

What are your thoughts? Does what others think of you matter more or less? Does it help you become better or does it keep you focused on the negative? Leave your comments, lets chat.

What does my Heart say?

Had a wonderful grateful filled and loving weekend. Spring cleaning at home and deep into my passions. My pens and pencils were put to good use and my camera saw some really beautiful things. Inspired!

This topic comes to you courtesy of Brainsparker, lovin this writing prompt app!

What does my Heart say?

My heart says that I'm in a happy place, that even though the ground is shacking the cement will soon dry and make it strong.
My heart says this is a good place to be, it's peaceful and full of joy and though it is small it is full of love and laughter.
My heart says some parts of my journey have been filled with sadness but what better way to reach the gratitude you feel today?

My heart says I love where I stand today and who stands with me today and looking back is not an option.
My heart says everyone is capable of love but only if they know how to love themselves first.
My heart says don't dim your light, don't bow your head, walk tall and proud.
My heart says thank you for taking care of me, for protecting me and for not lying to me.

My heart says thank you for all the laughter.
My heart says thank you for all the times your face bought me comfort.
My heart says continue to make the best choices that will help keep us healthy so we can live a long strong healthy life.

What does your heart say?

Live the highest expression of Yourself

When I tell you that I will not accept something Believe me
When I say I am for real Trust me.
When I open my space to you Enjoy it

I aspire to always be like a Peacock

Expand my feathers and give you an amazing show. Be tall and glide as I walk so my presence is known. Turn from side to side so you can take in all the wonder of me and tip toe gracefully as not to scare you away.

I aspire to always be like a waterfall

Bold and ever flowing with natures gift. Sometimes loud sometimes quiet but always exciting to look at. Whether high up or low to the ground always leaving your mark behind.
Never selfish always connecting with another to allow life to continue to go on.

I aspire to always be like a Boulder

Hard to miss and smoothed out with time. Strong, enduring, and no matter where it lands it always manages to hold its own.

I aspire to always be Childlike

Never afraid to run free, let go of your hand and try new things. Always laughing, giggling and rolling around on the floor. Spitting things out that taste bad and asking for more when things are really good. Enjoying a game of make believe and never taking things to seriously.

I aspire to always be like a Rose

Beautiful as she blooms inviting all to come and enjoy her beauty but with Thorns that say use caution as you approach. Bringing joy and brightness to her surroundings and leaving a sense of emptiness when she is gone. Reminding us that nothing last forever so enjoy each moment and shine brightly as you walk through life.

Wanting my Rewards Now not Later

Dolls Christmas is almost here but can I share I can't wait till it is over! All these greedy, self absorbed people walking around me I have just had enough! Don't you gift your loved ones all year long with the basics of just love, presence and kindness? Are you so F***** up all year long that you have to BUY the people around you in one day? All I have seen lately has sucked the joy of this holiday for me and because I am not wrapped up in myself and have instead actually been dealing with regular life issues I wanted to share my latest thoughts maybe they express something you have put some thought into as some point as well.

Love and attention lasts longer
than any Purchased gift...remember that
 Happy Holidays!

Is there life before death?
Why aren't we living our best lives before we die?

If you watch the news on a daily basis you see that it is full of gloom. Death and poverty everywhere. People treating each other poorly constantly. What is our fellow man doing to one another?

I watch my daughter and wonder what the future holds for her, I walk pass a park and as I watch the children play I ask myself what is in store for you? How long will that innocence last before someone or something tarnishes your beautiful life?

We walk around as if we have all the time in the world and it is only when tragedy occurs either around us or in our own lives that we stop and refocus. But why does it take tragedy for us to focus on what really matters? Or why do certain people use religion to tell me that my rewards will come later after my time on this earth is done?

I want my rewards now, I don't want to wait for later. I want to enjoy Living. I am not referring to mass consumption of things I am referring to just day to day things. Nature, family, friends, making a living, love...
I want my hard work to pay off now. When I die it is an idea that my soul goes someplace better and that may be wonderful but why can't I also have better now?

Self care. I believe that if all of us valued that concept it could trickle over to every aspect of our lives and every interaction we had with anyone around us. Is it wrong to want to obtain that? Would it be considered selfish and if it is, why?
Why is it selfish to take care of our needs first and have the goodness of that nurturing spill over onto everything else? Ever wonder why only those who neglect their needs only to be miserable in doing so are the ones who label you selfish when you are their opposite?

I want to live my best life now, I have no interest in reaping rewards later. I want to matter, I want to help, I want to make a difference...now.
So how can I do that? How can I have it all like the ideal dream? I came up with this list, what do you think?
-rest
-sleep
-have periods of time where doing nothing is doing something
-volunteer
-practice kindness
-enjoy your friendships
-smile often
-kiss a lot
-dance
-talk to strangers
-learn something new everyday
-read
-turn OFF your gadgets
-have dinner with your loved ones often and talk together
-stop procrastinating

There are so many rewarding things we can do on a daily that our lists can be endless but if we start with kindness and a smile that alone is enough to make any day great. What do you think? How can we live our best lives now, be rewarded now and not have it be labeled selfish?
While you think about that I will be getting my ball rolling by heading to my living room to watch a movie with my lil mama!

Wrapping things Up

Aha! Got your attention, right. What on earth came to mind when you read my title? So many possibilities let's just leave it at that.

Hey loves, always nice to have you drop by and see what's up in Mommywood.

Can you believe its December! In the blink of an eye we are already ending the year. Are you ready for 2016? How did you guys do on your "Bucket List" as most call it? Mine is called Accomplishment List. When I think of a bucket I think of dirty water and clean floors or dirt in the back yard that is not anywhere near my life's adventure thoughts.

I've been reflecting and refocusing my energies getting ready for all the grand wonders to come in 2016. How can a New Year be amazing if we go into it with our old energy right?! Personally 2015 wasn't so bad if I look at the big picture. I mean yeah I had a few pebbles trip me as I walked down a few roads but I caught myself and kept it moving.

Isn't life about doing just that, overcoming the bumps on the road? Isn't being successful the ability to overcome things that get in our way?
Don't we love to see when our kids fall and get right back up? They don't even flinch its like "oh how did that happen? ok well keep it moving and they do!!!

My daughter is a ball of energy most of the time it is only on days when she has put in very long hours in school and work that she walks in the house in silence. I have learned in those days to just let her walk by and wait for her cue to chat later. Her energy is contagious and the other night she taught me another great lesson...
Go out and Get it!

In her very colorful choice of words which I won't repeat but instead clean up she shouted in the middle of our living room "Mami whatever you want just Go out and Get it" Whatever you need tell me and I will help you get it!!! It is our time we about THIS MONEY!!!"

That declaration was amusing yet powerful. We can't expect things to fall on our laps better jobs, financial freedom, healthier life styles etc... We must make a commitment to ourselves to take the steps to Go out and Get it.

So I am committing to the following:
-cutting out more sweets
-sleeping more
-reading more
-adding another $25 to a savings account weekly (it adds up trust me!)
-revamping my families budget plan
-trying something new everyday even something small
-making more of an effort to cross things OFF my Accomplishment List
-more networking
-more photography adventures
-more Mindful living

What things will you be focusing on in 2016? Anything you dropped the ball on in 2015 you want to try your hand at again? Please share I love to be motivated!

Pay Attention to Life

Nothing surprises me more than when I'm in my quiet moments and I begin to smile thinking about "this is so not where I thought I would be by now"in my life types of moments.

In my younger days it would cause me such panic and distress to have these thoughts but today I am grateful to have them and be able to smile. What has happened to me to change my reactions? Well a few things have happened and the deepest one was learning to change my perspective.

As parents we all know that our children can take us off our set plans in a matter of seconds and to those of us who tend to be control freaks, such as I have been it can really cause turmoil inside and outside of our bodies and our minds. It is by trial and error that as we mature we learn the skills to cope with such change in circumstances.

I had a wonderful conversation with my daughter on Friday night, she slips into my bedroom and lays on my chase lounge fluffs the pillows and begins to talk. I was on my IPad researching and web browsing not really anything important but I was sort of hoping the "talk" wouldn't be very long and then she said something..."I'm going to follow my own rules, I am going to build my own life, not what someone else has "designed" for me." At that moment I shut off my pad and looked at her and really listened.

That "talk" I was hoping to just rush through lasted until 2:30 in the morning. It touched on so many topics, history, race, relationships, politics, fashion, family, money the works. But of all the words that were exchanged and all the opinions the one thing I hold on to was having the opportunity.
The opportunity to sit with my daughter and just talk. The opportunity to be present in the moment and just listen.

Everyday we are bombarded with the need to have more, do more, be more, get more... I recently signed up for The Mindfulness Summit its 31 days full of tools and talks on how to be more Mindful.
Several years ago when I first started to practice Yoga and Meditation I had to really take some time to grasp exactly what Mindfulness was. Prior to that my last relationship was full of lessons and talks on just that I just wasn't paying attention.

So to keep it as simple as possible and to share how I keep this tool in use on a daily basis this is how I remember what Mindfulness is:
-Mindfulness is remaining in the moment as if your life depended on it, as if this was all there was, without judgment, without looking for an outcome, just being, breathing and taking it all in.

As if your life depended on it, can you imagine that? Can you imagine living and interacting with others as if your Life depended on it? As if there was no other time but right now?
That is what I practiced as I listened to my daughter speak. I may not get that moment again. I may not get her strolling in my room to "talk" again. I must Pay Attention.

I went to visit my grandmother and bring her groceries. I walked in the door she asked who I was then smiled, took my hand and said hello, I paid attention. I looked her in the eyes and saw the joy she had in that moment, even if it was gone shortly after. I put the groceries away, gathered her dirty laundry and was on my way out the door to the laundry room and she says, "where are you going?" I tell her I am going to wash her clothes and she seems sad as if she was loosing something so I stop. I put the bag down and sit with her. I hold her hands, kiss her cheek, hug her tight and then she smiles. I get up and walk to the door I tell her I will be right back and she says ok. She is content, she feels safe, she knows I am not leaving her. I paid attention.

Do we always know the "why" behind our actions? Oh I am sure we think of course we do, we aren't crazy. We work long hours to make money to provide our families with security. We go to school to get better educations to get better jobs to make more money to provide for our families. It's always a cycle of doing something "more". There is nothing wrong with more if you also know how to balance  it with less.

How can we do that? How can we find that balance? Well as a woman and a mother who always likes things in order and who in the past was sometimes just going from one task to another once I began to do the following Life became more pleasurable:

-Breathing, something we do without even thinking. Only when we are sick do we even acknowledge its true importance. Take a few minutes out of your day to just Breathe. Deep and long close your eyes and release all that stress of Life.
-Looking, really See what is in front of you. The trees, the grass, the cars, people. You will notice just how many of us are looking down. No one is making eye contact any more and you will begin to experience a sadness and a loss. This will bring you to...
-Appreciate, small things. The sound of kids laughter, finding that piece of gum lost in your bag, catching the bus just before it closed its doors. That last flower in your garden that doesn't want to give way to the next season.
-Tasting. When was the last time you really tasted that Ice Cream you bought and ate as you watched television? How about that great meal at that fancy restaurant it took you over a month to get reservations? How did it taste? Was it mouth watering and did the scents fill the air or where you too busy talking that you didn't notice? Were you rushing to the next drink or dessert to Pay Attention?
-Grateful for the chance. Any chance to live another day. To be able to try something new or to do better than the last time. To see and be with those I love and not be quick to move on the the next.
-Smile. I love to smile, I have the parentheses around my mouth to prove it. But to smile just because is such an amazing feeling. To smile because you can walk, talk and listen. Smile because you can hear, even what you are hearing is unpleasant. Smile because you can and should and because you Pay Attention to Life.

Hope you guys go check out The Mindfulness Summit, there is something for everyone there and I hope you start Living your best life and Paying Attention. Please comment and tell me what tools and practices you use to Live a more purposeful life.

When your always looking for the "Next"

Happy Sunday to my beautiful blog fam I just finished my Yoga class was sitting taking some deep breaths and thought of this. Today I have a few questions I'm looking forward to the replies. It's the beginning of September officially school is in session and "Summer" as we know it is gone but how many of you already are...
-preparing for Halloween?
-thinking about your Thanksgiving guest list?
-Christmas shopping?

How many of you have entertained Tax refund talk?  Be honest, no judgment here today is about observation.

I wanted to bring this up because this past week between emails, grocery shopping and running errands for my baby #2 my grandma I ran into in some way, shape or form the above mentioned. When I did it really made my head spin and a sadness came over me. We are like machines, programmed to always look for the "Next".

The next hour, the next meal, the next season, the next event, the next vacation, the next holiday next next next.
Didn't we just get over a long Winter? Weren't we just celebrating 4th of July? Didn't you just get around to buying school supplies? Now your rushing through Labor Day and Halloween? Seriously? Why? What's the rush? What are you running to instead of being still in?

Have you ever even stopped to think of all you would have missed in your child's life if you were so quick to rush through that?
-first smile
-first baby steps
-first giggle
-first tooth
-the attempts at rolling over
-school plays
-sporting events
-first crush

In our lifetime with our children this list is endless and I know that for me I would have been crushed if I'd missed any such events so I'm sure it's pretty much the same for most parents. We want to be present, we want to show support, we want to love and care for our babies. But how true to those values are we in all other aspects of our lives? From the looks of things I see daily in so many different ways I am in doubt.

I'd like to challenge you to try to be in the moment, be present in whatever it is you are doing. Whether it's the laundry or making dinner. If it's watching a television program or getting your nails done. If it's walking to work or to your car....be in the moment. Life is not guaranteed anything can happen in a split second. If and when it does that "Next" won't matter.

Maybe these pictures will encourage you to try my challenge, had I not been in the moment I would have missed them. Hope you enjoy, I'd love to hear from you

Live with Purpose

It's never to late to be who your meant to Be.

After my second serious relationship ended I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and a sadness I had never felt before. Feeling like a failure and questioning myself I decided to get "real" and start peeling away at all the layers that made up Mari. I wanted to know what the heck was wrong with me.

Of course when relationships end we automatically think something is wrong with someone. We never think it's just not the right connection or right time or that along the way plans and ideas changed. Just like we at times go into a store with one thought and as we walk the aisles we turn to another thought such can happen in a relationship.

This peeling away and dissecting of my layers took a full year. I read books, I wrote lists, I talked, I watched videos, I cried, I read some more, I cried some more then I just stopped one day and said "this is not who I am this is not who I am meant to be" " this person's view of me is not my end but my beginning".

No one is right or wrong, just different. No one is lacking we are both good enough just not good enough together.

During this time I began to physically do something that for many years I always wanted to do. Volunteer. I wanted to invest my time not waste my time or spend my time. I wanted to make a difference, make someone smile or laugh, use my hands to help something grow, use my eyes to see the good in life. My BFF steered me in the right direction by ntroducing me to an amazing organization called New York Cares.

It's been almost three years since I became a volunteer at NY Cares. I've had fantastic opportunities to contribute to wonderful things and meet wonderful people. To feel love and give love, to share in smiles and sometimes tears. To Live with Purpose.

My most resent experience was with Kids of various ages who have Special Needs. It was a two hour music class. A real music teacher came to teach the class. I had no clue what to expect, I just love music so thought it would be fun and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. I wanted to practice what I have learned about life, gratitude and patience. When I got there everyone was so welcoming and friendly. My team leader gave us a briefing on do's and don'ts. Major don't was no touching! Some of the kids are very sensitive to a lot of stimulation so she suggested we let the kids guide us in how we connected with them.

I learned to sign the number's 1-10 and the alphabet A-J, the teacher suggested that basic sign was a great tool to know and use with our kids in case of an emergency. I learned to use eye contact better to maintain the kids engaged with the activities. We sang, danced and played instruments. At the end of class we did a little ribbon dance and everyone loved it! The flow of the ribbons seemed to soothe the kids and ended the class on a high note.

I am definitely making this one of my other set assignments for sure. The smile on their faces though many didn't even speak was priceless. I began small conversations with some of the parents and hope to learn more about the kids and what I can do in general to better their experience in the class. Live with Purpose.

Volunteering started as something that I could do to help others but it quickly turned into something that healed me from the inside out. That I received from more than I gave because with all my assignments I have rec'd so much love, more than I could have ever imagined. If volunteer work is not possible because of time etc...find something! Give back in your lowest moment, in your time of need and you will see how much of a reward it will be. Live with Purpose.

What are some ways you live with purpose? Have you passed that on to your children? Have a great program you think I should try out?

Always stress free xo.

Stay Uplifted even in Trying Times

My lovelies I won't lie to you and say I am in an uplifted head space right this second. Actually I am mentally exhausted and looking forward to my week off next week.
Why? well my grandma is in the hospital, she took a spill on Sunday and on Monday we had to take her to the hospital in an emergency, turns out she has a minor rib fracture.

Being so fragile and her age there is but so much the doctors and nurses can do and with her Alzheimer's disease it makes it worse to communicate. Needless to say I haven't pulled my hair out because I love my head of hair lol (staying on the cheery side).

Yesterday I was in the hospital keeping her company for over 7 hours, I know there are people right now who are spending days so I am not trying to make a big deal out of it but it is draining none the less. Driving back and forth, trying to keep her happy, helping her eat etc....trying trying trying. Answering the same darn questions..."Yes I'm the granddaughter, no there are no other family members, yes I'm the primary care giver, yes I make all the decisions, no she doesn't understand what's going on" etc etc.......

I'm writing this post as I sip some green tea in my office, my bosses have been great with allowing me to leave when I want to. Monday I left at 4pm got home at midnight, yesterday I left at noon got home at 11pm and today I am leaving at 2pm getting home...who knows. I hope they discharge her soon because I know that she is more concerned about being in the hospital than her actual issues.

Wish me luck guys I need it, remember I am making decisions for someone who has no clue and is helpless literally without me. It is a huge responsibility because she can't even voice an opinion. If you find yourself in this same situation or have experience please share with me and lets lift each other up.

In the meantime I am sharing some quotes to keep us focused and strong. Much love!

The importance of setting our Goals and Intentions

Happy Wednesday! I can't believe I am three months into a New Year and a whole season almost laid to rest. Wishful thinking perhaps on the side of Winter almost being gone. It seems like it just doesn't want to go away. I look at my closet everyday and say sorry to all the pieces that I just can't wear at the moment including some shoes and boots. I think the memo skipped New York that it is officially Spring.

Which brings me to this share, back in December I finally after years of thinking about purchasing a pair I bought some UGG boots?! I bought the tall Cardy style in black that has the belt instead of the buttons. I found them on sale at one of my favorite sites 6pm.com. Now I rarely buy on impulse, I have learned to wait a day or two even a week before I commit to a purchase. But I saw them for around $80.00 from $170.00 I thought oh I can do that. Mind you I was never about to spend over $100 for these boots. I get my boots and I'm all excited to wear them when I walk outside and almost bust my butt on sheet of ice. I was like what!

The soles were crap, they are not actual winter weather boots but more for show. I was not happy at all. Yes they are warm but no they are not practical. Turns out though that luck was on my side because shortly after I received my boots I got another sale email and my boots were on sale again I got on the phone in a flash and had customer service adjust my price and give me a refund. Moral of this story? Don't fall for the hype of a product and if you do look for a sale!

Ok back to my 2015 intentions and goals.
Aside from the obvious above story to get the most bang for my buck I have several goals I want to meet. I want to write more about the growing pains we go through with our older kids. Seems not enough attention is paid some times to these older years. I want to touch on some of the things I am currently going through with my almost 20 year old daughter. I also want to share more of my photography with you guys.I am loving my online IPhone photography classes. I am all about comfort and since my schedule especially with the care of my grandma sometimes makes time difficult, to be at home on my pad learning then walking outside and practicing works really great at the moment. NYC is a great subject and I look forward to incorporating more travel in time as well.

Working on some options for financial security. Planning for that rainy day and that comfy retirement life that I know Social Security alone will not provide. Doing some research and talking with some people. Things I wish I would have done in my 20's but at that age we think we have forever...we don't so start early!!!

Expanding on my Yoga practice by lengthening my class times and how often I practice a week. Same for my Meditation. I follow a great site on Instagram yogaliving and the poses they share via pictures are very inspiring and keep me focused. Healthy and lite I don't want to force my heart to work so hard to keep me alive. No one really thinks about that. We all have the same size heart but if you are not healthy and carry some extra weight it is working harder at keeping the blood circulating properly. And I said "extra weight" I am not "fat shaming", healthy doesn't mean size 0 thru 3 necessarily, it just means making healthy life choices. Yes we are what we eat.

My Locks of Love commitment is coming along, but I believe it will most likely be end of year for chop off time. For those who have no idea what I am referring to, I am growing my hair out once again to donate it for a second time to Locks of Love. Here is a little back story with pictures hair-hair-hair and I'll share few new pictures now for relevance.

bottom left before cut, top left mid cut, bottom right full cut,
top right shoulder length new growth

All these things and several more add to my intentions of longevity and peace. My intent is to grow in positive direction and live life to its fullest while giving back and living with purpose. Being the best role model my daughter can have is a goal that keeps me focused.

What Goals and Intentions did you set out for in 2015? Have you started to work towards them or have you already forgotten them? Do you feel it's a good idea to start off year with such purpose or do you just work with things as they come along?
Share your thoughts, let me know what you have planned for your 2015.

Always stress free xo.

Giving Up

These thoughts come just at the right time! Christmas is just a few days away and everyone has lost their minds or so it appears if you are driving or in a store.
Today I almost got sideswiped twice by crazy drivers not looking at where they were going. I saw people with more bags than they could carry and I saw lines out the doors.

Thank heavens I am not in that mindset and thank heavens that I also made it home in one piece!
I handled my grandmother duties, I invested my time making her laugh and happy and I sat to write my thoughts...

Less is more, More is less.
Quality beats Quantity
Minimum effort Maximum results

On my minimalist journey these past several months I've had to reprogram my brain and in doing so I have found such clarity. I notice things and pay closer attention to how advertising works, store placement, magazines, commercials etc...there goal is to make you think you need. Make you feel like you are missing out on something if you don't have this or that.

They play on our weakness for excess. Wanting to be like so and so, competing to have the latest and greatest.

But at what expense?

Our safety net, our bills paid on time, our home repairs, our kids educations, our self esteem, our sanity, our we are good enough mindset?

When I started this challange I took stock of what I had in my closet. Blouses, shirts, sweaters, slacks, jeans, leggings the works.
I realized I had a need for nothing but a want for a few things.
I have enough clothes and accessories to last me well over two months without repeating too much of one item and I decided that would be enough.

No commercial, no magazine, no sale, no extra week in the month was or is going to deter me from my goals from my plans.
I keep telling myself "look at bigger picture" and that is what I am continuing to do.

If you ask me what is One thing I could give up and not care I will answer that as of now it's jeans. What I have is more than enough.
I can mix and match, cuff uncuff, dress up or down.
If you ask me what is One thing I cannot give up I will say at this point is my search for a great mustard yellow or tangerine orange Winter wool coat!
Hey I'm being honest. Wish me luck in finding it while in all other aspects I continue to stick to my guns.

Do you fall trap to the commercials? The magazines?
What have you purchased because you "thought" you had to have it but really didn't "need" it?

Always stress free xo.
